The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigeria nationals for the positions below at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.
Position: Field Worker III
Contract: 2-years renewable contract
Location: Ibadan
Closing Date: 22 September 2026
DUTIES
A. Field Research Support
• Participate in cassava field establishment, crop maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest activities under the postharvest physiological deterioration (PPD) project.
• Support collection of agronomic, phenotypic, and PPD-related data from field trials and cassava breeding populations.
• Monitor cassava field plots and breeding materials for crop performance and other relevant field observations.
• Assist in the handling, transportation, and documentation of cassava research materials between the field, laboratory, and screen house.
B. Digital Phenotyping and Data Management
• Support digital capture, annotation, and quality control of cassava root images.
• Assist in collecting, recording, organizing, cleaning, validating, and securely storing laboratory and field research data using approved digital tools
• Maintain accurate records of research activities.
C. Laboratory and Tissue Culture Operations
• Support routine laboratory and tissue culture activities following approved protocols.
• Assist with media preparation, labelling, sterilization, sample handling, and organization of laboratory materials and consumables.
• Support multiplication, maintenance, and acclimatization of cassava tissue culture materials.
• Ensure proper labelling, tracking, and storage of laboratory samples and cultures.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and proper organization of laboratory workspaces and equipment.
• Perform other related duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION
SSCE/O'Level with a minimum of two (2) years’ of relevant experience in laboratory operations, field, data collection or research activities. Experience with agricultural or research-related projects will be an added advantage.
COMPETENCIES:
The ideal candidate must have:
· Ability to work effectively in laboratory, screen house, and field environments.
· Good organizational and record-keeping skills with attention to detail.
· Basic knowledge of data collection and data management.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word and Excel.
· Good communication and teamwork skills
