Job Overview: The key objective of the team is to ensure the availability, performance, and integrity of critical databases supporting the Bank's wholesale banking and other enterprise platforms, providing technical support for complex issue resolution. The role maintains disaster recovery readiness, enabling failover or restoration from backup in the event of production disruption, and ensures compliance with the Bank's security and access policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out database capacity planning for subsidiary and project database environments, review complex SQL codes, and provide technical guidance during the deployment of new applications.
- Interface effectively with Infrastructure, Application, and other IT teams to provide appropriate L3 support and maintenance for database deployments.
- Put measures in place to ensure the integrity of subsidiary and project databases is not compromised.
- Design and implement database backup policies and procedures, including disaster recovery measures to enable failover to an alternative site or restoration from backup in the event of production disruption.
- Monitor database sizes against capacity plans, ensure regular health checks of database infrastructure, and perform performance tuning to guarantee continuous availability and optimal performance.
- Ensure all subsidiary and project databases operate in compliance with the bank's security and access policies.
- Respond to internal and external audit queries and ensure remediation of observed vulnerabilities and non-conformities.
- Facilitate root cause analysis on database issues and drive timely resolution of complex, escalated problems.
- Perform benchmarking analysis to properly size hardware platforms and maintain technical documentation relating to database management functions.
- Provide leadership, technical guidance, and capacity development to team members supporting subsidiary and project database operations.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Technical & Functional Skills
- Good knowledge and proficiency of Oracle Database
- Good knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server database
- Ability to use Oracle data dictionary
- Ability to review and interpret log files, AWR and other diagnostic reports to resolve performance challenges
- Good knowledge of UNIX/Linus and other relevant operating systems
- Good security knowledge
- Ability to research, resolve and document unknown problems.

Qualification & Experience
Mandatory
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM, Computer Science, data base management or related discipline
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in core database management, preferably in a financial institution
- Sound proficiency in database management.
- ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF certifications
- Oracle OCP/OCE, Database, Java SE, Certified Master or other relevant Oracle certifications.
Desirable
- Experience in the financial services industry is highly desirable.
- Master's degree in IT or a relevant discipline
- Other relevant professional certifications and qualifications
